Michelle Ryan, a Ph.D. candidate at George Mason University, is studying the distribution and role the mystery snails are playing in our Potomac River watershed, and she seeks interested volunteer citizen scientists to asssit in the data collection effrots during the upcoming Summer 2015 field season (mid-May - September 15).
Citizen scientists can participate in the Mystery snail research project either by conducting one or more snail surveys from kayaks or canoes from these launch points: Occoquan Regional Park or Mason Neck State Park, or by foot in park areas along the Virginia side of the Potomac River.
Information and schedule: Children under 16 need direct adult (parent/guardian) supervision while participating in this project. Plan for hot weather by bringing your own drinking water. Dress for field work (sturdy shoes, clothing to protect hands, arms, and legs). NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED.
