Volunteer!




Would you like to help to conserve, manage, and protect our nation's natural resources?  Get involved by volunteering at Mason Neck State Park!


What do Mason Neck State Park Volunteers do?


Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Assist staff with interpretative programs for the visiting public and groups
  • Participate in special one-day events such as Clean the Bay Day, First Day Hike, and the Eagle Festival
  • Lead special projects 
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks (such as trail maintenance and clearing)
  • Staff the contact station and visitor center
  • Support the Park 
How much time is required?


You determine your own volunteer time. Volunteers may help a few hours a week or month, during a particular season, or year round.


Who may volunteer?


No special skills are needed to be a Park volunteer. Some opportunities may require on-the-job training. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.


Benefits


As a volunteer, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing your efforts have enhanced your state park for today and generations to come.  You'll meet new people - ranging from park staff and people in the community to visitors from other countries.  The Park provides training that helps volunteers gain work experience and improve job skills. In addition, volunteer hours count as job experience when applying for employment with Virginia State Parks or for any state government slot. 


Fairfax Master Naturalists can obtain service hours for their volunteer work at the park by entering Code S179,  Virginia State Park Stewardship Projects -- Department of Conservation and Recreation (VDCR). 


Here are some of the available volunteer positions:fi  

  • Interpreter--Environmental  
  • Park Ambassador
  • Photographer for special events and wildlife
  • Trail Steward
  • Trail Monitor 
  • Visitor Center/Office Assistant  (Tuesday through Thursday)
  • Community /Organizations/Friends Supporter
